Liebster Award 2017

Avleigh’s Journey has been nominated for a Liebster Award! Thanks To Teeny and the Bee for nominating us!!

Bloggers are nominated by their peers. Once they are nominated, they look for blogs that speak to them and have less than 200 readers per month, then they nominate those bloggers – paying it forward. Upon nomination, the Liebster Award Nominees are asked to answer 10 questions. Here were my 10 questions:

Q: Can you tell readers about yourself and your blog?

I’m the wife of a hard working man and the mother of two beautiful girls. Both of my girls are my world. My oldest is a very smart and beautiful child that is just like me. Very independent, affectionate and determined. My youngest daughter is a special needs child with a very rare disorder that leaves her with physical and communicative disabilities. Avleigh, our youngest, requires most of my time and attention and is what my blog is primarily focused on… Awareness of her disorder, updates on prognosis and venting!

Q: When and why did you start writing?

I started this blog not long after we received her diagnosis of Pontocerebellar Hypoplasia Type 2D. I know it’s a mouthful which is exactly what inspired me to begin writing. I always seem to get my thoughts together better on paper. These blogs began as a way to communicate with Avleigh’s supporters where I can give detailed information on her progress. What I didn’t expect was how much relief I felt as I was writing. Getting the information that I was trying to make sense of in my head just began to flow so well on paper. Almost two years later and I still enjoy writing to her audience.

Q: Do you have periods when you want to abandon your blog, and if so, what brings you back?

I do have period where I abandon my blog, but it is not with intension. Life is hard, time goes by fast and sometimes I just can’t take the time away from our family to write all of what I would like to. I’m constantly thinking of what my next blog will be and do not want to be sitting on a blank page wondering how or what I will write about. I try my hardest to keep blogs regarding Avleigh’s health as honest yet positive as possible. Once I feel I have enough information to make the blog worthwhile is when I begin typing.

Q: What makes your blog different from others out there?

I would say that my blog is different from others because it’s written from our life experience. It’s written based on how I interrupt these life events and definitely involves the emotions of a helpless mother. It’s from the heart.

Q: What was your proudest achievement (life in general)?

I don’t think I have a single proudest achievement. If I may, I would say that what I’m most proud about is my ability to be a good wife, an involved mom to my oldest, a dedicated employee and most of all being able to provide the best care possible for Avleigh. Sometimes I don’t know how I handle it all.

Q: What is a typical day like for you?

Is there really a such thing as a typical day? Every morning starts very early, all depending on when Avleigh decides she has enough sleep. Mornings are the most hectic. We start getting Avleigh all dressed, meds administered and feedings started. We then get Alyssa, my oldest daughter, ready for school. Once our at home sitter arrives, Alyssa and I go out to the bus. I then am off to work, unless we have appointments for Avleigh. We try to plan those in the morning not to break up our days. Our sitter is very good at giving me updates on how Avleigh’s day is going. I then return from work to get normal house chores done, supper fed, baths taken, more medicine administered and squeeze in play time with the girls. I finish every day rocking Avleigh to sleep, cuddles with Alyssa and prayers for continued strength and miracles for our baby.

Q: What is your favorite book?

It has been a very long time since I’ve actually read a book. Once I start reading I don’t like to put them down. So my favorite I would say is still “The Notebook”. Something about that love story just gets me.

Q: What is your favorite quote?

Why fit in when you’re born to stand out by Dr Seuss. This quote really hits home. It not only fits Avleigh so well but is a real eye opener when you look at life as a whole. People are too often focused on “fitting in” or “being normal” and it often makes us become people that we aren’t happy being.

Q: What do you think your blog says about you?

I would think that it says that I’m a dedicated parent of a very special needs child. I would think it says that I am strong but I’m also human.

Q: Where do you see your blog in five years?

I pray with all I have that my blog is still giving all Avleigh’s followers updates on her progress.

It’s now my turn to nominate some fellow bloggers. All of the ones that I have selected are are people that I consider friends and mentors. With this I hope to raise awareness not only for PCH but for all special needs children and rare diseases.
